Flying the flag for Yorkshire – Livewell Vending

It looks like Yorkshire is the place to be in 2014. When no less an authority than the New York Times listed Yorkshire in its top 50 places to visit this year, how could we argue?
As a pioneering Yorkshire-based company, Livewell is proud to support – and shout about – the sporting achievements of our fellow Yorkshire folk. With Yorkshire athletes flying the flag in Sochi, 2014 also sees the inaugural Harrogate Triathlon and the icing on the cake will be when the Tour de France Grand Depart heads through our region this summer.
Following on from the successful broadcast of the Sports Personality of the Year Award at Leeds’ first direct arena last December, Yorkshire athletes will be hoping for more sporting success at Sochi. Eleven athletes from the region will be heading to the Winter Olympics, competing in events such as the bobsleigh, skeleton and snowboarding. This accounts for almost 20% of the British athletes taking part (in the London 2012 Olympics more than 10% of the home athletes hailed from Yorkshire.) State of the art facilities in Yorkshire are hailed as integral to the success of our athletes, no doubt spurred on by true Yorkshire grit and determination.
If you’re looking to test your abilities – albeit not on the world stage – there’s plenty to get your teeth stuck into locally. As mentioned in our previous blog, Livewell is proud to get behind sporting initiatives and is delighted to be one of the sponsors of this year’s inaugural Harrogate Triathlon, taking place in May.
If we’re talking about sport in Yorkshire in 2014, all eyes will be on the Grand Départ, as the world’s top cyclists race through our cities and country lanes over the summer. The feelgood factor is really high already and interest has spread far beyond the sporting community….to knitting groups! Local knitters are currently up to their arms in wool, knitting mini cycling jerseys to decorate our towns and many more community events are being planned. Mark Cavendish has already laid his cards on the table and said of the first stage of ‘Le Grand Départ’, racing from Leeds to Harrogate; “if there’s one race that I can win in 2014, then that would be it.”
The world’s spotlight will be shining on Yorkshire in 2014. No doubt the achievements of our sportsmen and sportswomen will speak for themselves and all we’ll have to do is to keep our fingers crossed for the glorious sunny days of last summer.
