Environmentally Conscious Vending

two vending machines

At Livewell, we try to be as eco-conscious as possible. We know that concerns about single-use plastic are at the forefront of everyone’s mind, so we wanted to let you know that we are doing everything we can to make our services as eco-friendly as possible.

When you hear the word ‘plastic’, it might conjure up images in your mind of an ocean filled with single-use bottles and packets. But you can rest assured , all the bottles sourced by Livewell are made from recycled material and are recyclable.

Approximately 90% of our bottles are made out of rPET material

rPET stands for recycled polyethylene tetraphyte, which is the fourth most common plastic resin used in the world. The plastic content in rPET has been recycled, so the bottles that we use were produced without compromising any natural resources, reducing oil usage and greenhouse gas emissions associated with virgin plastic production.

environmentally conscious vending

rPET is derived from PET (without the little ‘R’). Like most other plastics it is made from a combination of oil and petrochemicals. However, PET is part of the thermoplastics’ family, which means they can be heated, melted and cooled into many different shapes and sizes. Those PET plastics then get transformed into the recycled plastic you see in your Livewell Vending machines, and from there they can be recycled again and again and again.

Finding a new life for these already-made products is a way to move forward and create a use for plastic products whilst reducing the amount of dangerous chemicals. On top of using products made with recycled materials, it’s important that we’re aware of our purchases and aware of how we dispose this plastic material as well.

Alongside our rPET products, Livewell try to reduce waste through recycling arrangement in place on our premises for all plastic, cardboard, and combustible materials. Where possible we source our equipment and refreshments locally. For example, our Coffee Vending machines and Water Coolers are all manufactured in the UK. And for our refreshments, we are pleased to source our bottled water locally from Harrogate Spring Water, reducing food miles. The telemetry system at the core of Livewell’s operated allows remote access to our vending machines via the cloud, which means we only make a journey to visit sites when needed and we only carry the stock on our vans that is required.

We want to implement change at every level of our organisation. For us, this means that we use the evolution of technology and a smarter approach to working in order to keep down emissions and reduce our carbon footprint. It also means that we work with reliable suppliers and brands who can help us deliver a complete and uncompromising vending solution for our customers, whilst practicing sustainability.

SMART Vending Tech Makes Us Livewell

two vending machines

SMART Technology is the driving force for what we do at Livewell Vending. With SMART technology supporting our services and our machines, we have managed to grow Livewell Vending into a more effective and efficient vending machine provider.

Read on to learn more about what SMART technology is, and how we have managed to build it into the processes that make Livewell what it is today.

SMART Tech in a Nutshell

SMART Technology is a term which has been growing in popularity over the years as the dawn of intelligently designed software and hardware has snuck over the horizon. Now the age of SMART tech has risen and shines brightly over every corner of our lives.

SMART technology allows us to fit personal computers in our pockets so we can Google, tweet, or game on the go. Your phone doesn’t just know your friends’ number, it knows who all of your friends are, what they like to do, eat, watch, or play, and where they often spend their time.

Your phone can do this because it has access to where you are all of the time, what your search history looks like, and from the data that you said that one website could use for marketing purposes that one time.

SMART home illustration

Individuals can promote themselves just as well as any business, and businesses have never understood more about their customers. Your car is on its way to driving itself, and your carpet was vacuumed by a robot. Nowadays you can enjoy the likes of SMART toothbrushes, SMART forks, SMART wine bottles, SMART bins, SMART water bottles, and even, you guessed it… SMART egg trays.

Suffice to say SMART technology does a lot for everybody, as is its purpose. What does SMART technology mean though? SMART originally meant “Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology” but is now used much more broadly to mean technology that has been enhanced to be more aware, or more responsive. Your car knows where you should park because of in-built sensors that respond to ultrasonic waves.

SMART technology uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and/or data analysis to enhance an inanimate object into something more responsive.

How does SMART tech improve vending

How could you possibly improve upon a vending machine? Vending machines have a fairly simple task with a fairly simple purpose. You give it money. It gives you snack. Right?

WRONG!

Ever had a vending machine eat your coin? Is it out of your favourite drink? Your favourite snack? That’s not okay in our book.

It would be pretty great if we could develop a solution to coins being stuck (we have), or if we could track when we’re running low on our favourite snacks and drinks (we can).

Vending SMART arm

SMART technology is the answer to working smarter and more effectively no matter what the sector, which is why we take any and all tech developments in the world of vending into serious consideration (no matter how wacky they might seem at first).

For Livewell, we have always tried to stay at the forefront of technological trends, being one of the first vending companies to integrate contactless payments into our machines. You can guarantee that the vending machines we provide aren’t rusty outdated boxes, but excellently designed machines with the latest add-ons and accessories that you want or need to deliver the best service.

The hardware for these machines has improved significantly, seeing a boost in the quality of the machines Livewell provides so they can deliver products in a much more efficient manner. Some of our machines even feature a robotic delivery system, that acts to reserve the quality of the product at delivery.

Benefits of Contactless Payment Technology

Contactless is seen everywhere nowadays, and its advantages are often taken without a pinch of salt. Not too long-ago cash was essential for being out and about. You never knew when a shopkeeper would utter the words “cash only”. Whether it was for a car park or the ice cream man, cash was the way to go. Then banks started offering contactless card payments and plastic became more and more the norm. It was only in 2014 that Apple released the Apple Pay feature, and it was only a few years ago that there were those shunning this contactless payment feature. It seemed dangerous to some that your phone can instantly access your bank account so you can pay with the touch of a button, or even just by looking at your phone. Now everybody is on the contactless trend, and cash has gone the way of the dodo.

This is why contactless payment comes as standard for our fully-managed customers. We know that for many people cashless payment technology is not only a necessary option, but an essential in riding the technological wave wherein money never needs to be in your hands for it to leave the bank. We can supply a range of contactless payment devices, our most popular is the Onyx, from the market leaders in payment devices, Nayax.

We work closely with Nayax to supply our contactless payment options. We share their customer-first mindset, with their focus being on the development of Nayax products and enhancement of the consumer experience. This includes accepting any new form of payment, to continuously providing peace of mind with the strictest security certifications, and 24/7 monitoring.

Contactless Payment Device

The Onyx is a sleek contactless card reader which is easy to fit and gives consumers a simple way to pay using a vast range of cashless payment options. The Onyx has a compact eye-catching design, and uses an easy navigation system with a colour touchscreen, and wide range of contactless payment types accepted. There is even a voice interaction option, for easy understanding, and ease-of-use.

Nayax also offers the Gryphon Coin Changer to elevate and optimise coin use with these machines. Where payment by coin is required, it needs to be secure and reliable. The Gryphon Coin Changer has the most technologically advanced coin sensing technology to ensure fast and efficient coin acceptance, and change dispense, along with increased coin capacity to ensure change is always available. This means faster coin acceptance with patented coin sensing technology alongside increased reliability with three motor system with 6 tubes providing 12% extra capacity. The Gryphon also features wireless, on-site, connectivity for easy fault diagnostics and repair and USB connectivity for easy updates and configuration.

how does telemetry work?

There is one particular feature that we provide to all of our fully-managed customers as standard, which underpins the whole way we operate and service our vending machines.

Telemetry is the collection of measurement or other types of data from remote data points and their automatic transmission to a monitoring system. There are different types of telemetry for different sectors or particular situations. Meteorologists use telemetry to measure the weather, doctors use telemetry to measure their patients’ respiratory rate, scientists use telemetry to transmit information from space. We use telemetry to measure what’s popular.

We monitor sales and performance directly from our desk, using our real-time data collection system. Our vending stations are tied directly to the cloud which gives us real-time instant access to sales, stock, and performance data. This quick-response program is what really makes our vending machines and vending solutions smart. This live data output delivers a whole host of benefits for our services and our customers.

We provide this system for free for all of our fully-managed customers purely because we want to make the most out of this live and remote access to your equipment. We also make sure that you have access to all this data for equipment we operate at your site. This is the optimal way to effectively run a modern unattended retail business across remote locations.

telemetry dashboard

Our self-fill customers can also access the telemetry system as an optional extra, and we can provide you with the software and training that will give you easy and simple access to live data. This way you will be able to run reports to reconcile revenue with stock in order to explore trends and performance over time so you can maximise sales.

Our live sales feed shows us sales as and when they happen, with real-time stock status assisting with refill scheduling, as well as alerts for errors and events to minimise downtime. Planogram analysis improve the product ranges our clients are presenting whilst maximising the use of space within the machine. Customisable reporting is also available and is perfect for analyses, and to quantify sales over defined periods to suit your business’s needs.

Vending machines are considered to be a hands-on experience, interacting at a physical level to supply payments and in-turn receive your snack or beverage. Since the Covid-19 pandemic there has definitely been an uptick in the number of users who are precautious of interacting with hardware that has also been in contact with potentially dozens (or even hundreds) of other users. So whether you’re still concerned about coronavirus, suffer from an immunodeficiency disorder, or just looking out for your general health and wellbeing, SMART technology offers people an avenue for safe, hygienic vending.

The first, simplest, and most surprising solution is the use of antimicrobial films on our machine’s touchpoints. At all points of interaction, we can implement a seemingly magical film that eliminates germs and bacteria that could have been spread to the machines from the user’s hand. This film works as a top-layer that can simply be stuck onto the desired surface, and using a safe bacteria-blocking agent called Agion that prevents the growth of unwanted bacteria by preventing bacterial cell multiplication. The solution is safe to touch, non-toxic, and non-irritating. The use of this film on Livewell Vending Machines mean they are primed for schools and hospitals, where germs can run rampant, and stop them from spreading.

Still don’t trust in the power of antimicrobial films? That’s okay. We can take it a whole step further. We can even supply a SMART tech solution for our machines which means you don’t even have to touch them. Hover-touch touchscreens keep a safe distance of 2cm from the screen and your hand, stopping the germs from interacting with you, while still allowing you to make your selection effectively. Hover-touch touchscreens mean customers don’t have to make contact with the screens in order to make a purchase increasing usability, and, once again, preventing the spread of infections and diseases.

SMART Tech Vending

As previously mentioned, onyx contactless payment options are incredibly efficient, next-level software and a wide range of contactless payment options to fill your boots with. The built-in onyx voice interaction system puts the distance between yourself and the machine so you no longer have to interact with frequent touchpoints, sustaining hygiene and improving interactivity.

Going that one step further, we can lean into the power of smartphone technology. Smartphone selection means you don’t even have to interact with the machine at all. This enables the user to simply purchase items directly from your phone, saving them time, and making purchases more convenient for the user.

vending machines

As SMART technology seeps ever more into the avenues of everyday life, vending is being built upon and developed in a way that elevates the user experience beyond the standard. For what is essentially a big metal rectangle, there’s a lot going inside. Vending machines can communicate significant information to vending machine providers and vending clients alike, with modern interactivity that makes it easier for users to engage with the machine, and even easier for the product to be delivered. Common problems like coins getting stuck have found modern solutions!

2022 So Far…

Livewell has been really busy in 2022 so far. As always, our goal is to refuel lifestyles, maximise productivity, whilst offering a great experience for our clients and their customers. We want to ensure that we deliver fantastic vending solutions bespoke to each of our client’s needs.

Sixth Form Vending Machine Installation

Improving Student Lifestyles

More than anything we wanted to showcase some of the vending installations we have implemented so far in this year. This fantastic hydration station in a sixth form in a Bradford looks great, fits nicely in the available space, and offers students the chance to pick up a quick drink on the way to their next class, or to wind down during their free periods.

All the machines

Fully Managed Sixth Form

This sixth form decided that they wanted a full set of vending machines installed. From left to right, there is a snack vending machine, drinks vending machine, and automatic coffee vending machine, all featuring contactless payment options and our sleek branding look. We were more than happy to implement this high level of comfort culture for these students and teachers.

The Glasshouse: Refuel and Go

Meanwhile, situated in the heart of Nottingham city centre, The Glasshouse is only a short walk to Nottingham Trent University and a short bus journey to The University of Nottingham. We managed to tuck in a couple of vending machines in the corner of their laundry room. This snack machine is kitted out with a touchscreen feature including an antibacterial microfilm to increase cleanliness, and our drinks machine has an arm that reaches and grabs your drink for you, instead of dropping it and getting rid of all that fizz.

Vending Machines have been installed

Apartment Refreshments 24/7

A great achievement for Livewell is our recent implementation of these coffee, snack, and drink vending machines within the Saffron Court Apartment building. These high-quality apartments need high quality machines, and these machines placed in the reception area are situated in the perfect position to grab snacks, drinks, or a cup of coffee on the go, or as you get back home.

Bringing People Back to Work: Flutter

Flutter and Livewell

The Brief

The Coronavirus pandemic pushed more of the nation’s workforce into their homes, and into isolation. Telephone and Zoom calls became the new standard for interaction. Today, isolation has now been lifted and workers are being encouraged to return to the office. Some are excited to go back to work, but may be apprehensive about how safe it is. Others may not want to return to work at all, as they are content with this change in lifestyle. Either way, Flutter wanted to cultivate an office culture, and create a workspace, where people feel comfortable, entertained, content, and willing, to return to the office whether on a full-time or hybrid basis.

Flutter Office Refreshment Area

Opened in August 2021, the Flutter offices are located in Wellington Place, Leeds, and include seven floors of unique open plan desk space, with a recreational space on the top floor boasting an outdoor balcony and a gaming station. Their open plan contemporary office space operates as a hub for a tech and digital company that has grown quickly to become a market leader in the betting and gaming world. Flutter developed this incredible space over a two-year period, in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, which created further considerations for the design and facilities.

The new Flutter offices in Leeds are buzzing with young professionals working hard to thrill, excite, and entertain their customers. As we slowly move further from the dread of the Pandemic, Flutter has begun to use a hybrid approach to their working situation. Team members work from home when they need quiet and concentration, but come into the office when they need to engage with other team members, creating an environment where members of the team can be happier and more effective in the work place.

In addition to creating an attractive, practical workspace to inspire dynamic individuals and teams, the space needs to ensure the workforce feel safe and welcome back to an office environment after a sustained period of home working. To encourage people to come into more, Flutter decided to further enhance this already incredible space, with premier, top of the line refreshment and vending equipment to deliver the best possible goods and services to their employees, whilst maintaining a safe, comfortable environment.

Rob Sweeney

UK Regional Workspace Manager at Flutter Entertainment Plc

Flutter is fully endorsing hybrid working. We want people to feel safe and secure in their working environment, and we don’t want to take people away from the advantages of working from home. However, if we can create a space where people want to come into work, then we can encourage that effective, valuable, face-to-face engagement that nobody can have on any online chat.

Coffee Breakout Area

The Proposal

As well as the seventh floors’ recreational space, the offices contain five main workplace break areas, and a central coffee area. These are the hub of the workspace on each floor providing space for a break from deskwork, a chance to get refreshments and have those all-important informal social interactions with colleagues. After a year of Zoom, this in-person contact is something many employees have missed, and something all office spaces need to provide in order to leverage the advantages of coming into the office compared to home working.

Office Vending Machines

The smart vending equipment is absolutely premium, for example, the sleek modern machines include features such as;

 1. temperature control
 2. contactless options creating a low contact environment for Covid safety.
 3. touchscreen to display information and make purchases
 4. remote access so Livewell can analyse and monitor the products purchased more effectively and efficiently enabling us to manage and maintain the products and equipment
Vending Machine

Vending Products

Automated self-serve vending machines contain a range of popular branded products, as well as a variety of healthier options. These machines provide a high standard of refreshment, with a large selection of modern choices. The Hydration and Snack Stations sit neatly in alcoves and provide quick and easy acres to refreshments with a contactless payment system to suit the accelerated post-covid switch away from cash. The Hydration Station contains a variety of drink options to satisfy anybody’s thirst. The Snack Stations provide a multitude of snack options to satisfy that midday craving.

Coffee Machines

The coffee machines Livewell installed are just as impressive as the vending equipment. The machines Livewell provided Flutter include;

 1. top end, fresh milk and fresh beans
 2. milk injection technology to create premium results
 3. a full menu of coffee shop quality coffees and hot chocolate drinks, including cold frappé options, and Galaxy Hot Chocolate

These clean, easy-to-use machines are perfect for providing a range of coffee choices for young professionals. In addition, the ‘distance selection’ menu selection allows staff to place their cup and make their choice without the need to touch the machine at any point – great for those concerned about touch points.

Aaron Prout

MD, Livewell Vending

At Livewell, we carefully source the top end machines, and augment them with the latest technologies that enable us to work smarter and more efficiently. Satisfaction is our priority, so we always try to provide the highest quality and widest range of products possible, giving people popular brands to choose from, and healthier options to keep people happy. We even created our own Livewell Medium Roast Coffee so we know we can provide the best hot drinks possible.

Implementation

All-in-all Livewell provided Flutter with eleven different premium and/or bespoke vending machines, and 6 exceptional top-of-the-line coffee machines. The vending machines contain a range of popular branded products for everybody to enjoy, as well as a variety of healthier options. The machines provided were a combination of the Coffee Station, Snack Station, Hydration Station, and a combination machine on floor seven tailored to the specific needs of that breakout space.

Flutter had specific ideas about what they wanted for their space, and Livewell were happy to deliver. Livewell provided bespoke vending models specifically designed to accommodate the alcove spaces in the building, sourcing slimmer yet equally effective models, proving Livewell’s dedication to their clients, and the lengths they will take to provide a service that excels. These particular machines are embedded within the office space which is convenient, looks great, and is stylistically perfect for Flutter’s sleek new offices.

Outcome

Within these breakout spaces, Livewell Vending have provided a range of food and drink options throughout this space to enrichen the work environment and refresh and sustain the lively, energetic workforce that populate the space. While Flutter continues to develop their hybrid working style, they are bringing people back to work using the contemporary workspace and by providing refreshment services to the staff that work there.

Flutter is at the forefront of developing the post-modern office space and hybridised working style, catapulting from the Coronavirus pandemic. They know that isolation has changed not only how people do their work, but how they think about their work. People are happy with the time and the space that working from home provides them. However, the workspace still has value, providing a space for face-to-face interactions that build the company, as well as build the individuals within it, to meet and develop upon ideas and each other in a way that a Microsoft Teams meeting could never do. For Flutter, this is the new normal. A hybridised working style, supplemented by a premium office space, with top-tier refreshment services to optimise performance and boost morale.
